Gypsy Spirit

I still can’t shake the image of your eyes
Searching for answers as you left that day.
As I stood on the platform in Madrid,
Helplessly watching your bus pull away.

Standing all alone in a faceless crowd
Wondering if I’d ever see you again,
With an empty hotel room awaiting,
Bags packed and ready to get on a plane.

I have to be on the road one more time
My gypsy spirit keeps on calling me
Beyond the horizon, spontaneous
As the wind; so much of the world to see.

More than an ocean divides us now and
This is a harsh world of sadness and pain;
The rich lavish in their marble mansions
While the poor die in the street in the rain.

There are times I feel like my heart will break
With the injustice I see every day.
Though I miss you with every breath I take,
It would have been harder for me to stay.

You can’t keep a wild bird in a cage
As much as I think that you wanted to.
I love you so much for keeping the faith
That someday I would fly back to you.
